Brazil pig iron exports plunged to six-month lows during Nov 2014

According to statistics provided by SECEX- Foreign Trade Secretariat, the pig iron exports by Brazil during the month of November declined sharply. The exports, which had rebounded in September, had sustained the uptrend in October too.
 
Brazil’s pig iron exports totaled 135,842 during November ’14. The total exports dropped sharply by 61.10% from the previous month. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 349,000 tons during the month of October this year. When compared with the exports during the same month a year before, the Nov ’14 pig iron exports were down nearly 42%.
 
The largest importer of Brazilian pig iron during November 2014 was Italy. Italy imported 48,039 tons of Brazilian pig iron, accounting for more than one-third of the total pig iron exports by the country during the month. The second largest importer of Brazilian pig iron was the US with 38,063 tons, followed by Spain with 17,911 tons. The other major importers were Taiwan (15,930 tons), Hong Kong (10,078 tons) and Japan (1,037 tons).
 
The pig iron exports by the country during the initial eleven months of 2014 totaled 2.378 million tons. The exports fell by 6.8% during the period.
 

The largest importer during the eleven-month period was the US with 1.614 million tons, declining by 2.5% over the year. The other major import destinations of Brazilian pig iron were Netherlands (156,372 tons, +20.6%), Taiwan (124,473 tons, -37.7%).
